Hope you’ve enjoyed a nice week so far. I bet all iPhone owners (me too!) are running iOS5 by now, so that’s nice.
Now, I suggest we move forward and do something productive for a change.
We’ve just released PHP Melody 1.6.7 and I want to share with you some of the changes.
Let’s start with the improvements and bug fixes:
- Fixed the database backup procedure
- Fixed problems in mp4 and flv uploading
- Fixed username renaming issue
- Fixed ‘private article’ preview page
- Fixed vulnerability issue where moderators can make themselves admins
- Fixed the MegaVideo thumbnail issue
- Updated installer
- Updated phpmailer class included
- Improved number formating for more readable data
- Caching of categories for reduced MySQL load and increased speed
- Video chart optimization
- + a few other minor issues
And now, here are the new features:
- You can now check the status of your locally hosted videos
- Multi-level categories (e.g. sub-sub-sub categories)
- Select multiple categories when adding or importing videos
- Testing option for the email settings (many customers had problems adding an email account)
- RSS with thumbnail image support
- Video sitemap generator
- Better audio playback with cool visualisation effects
- JW Player with the following improvements:
- Time indicator in the time slider (for accurate skipping)
- Related videos are displayed on PAUSE on once the video finished playing
- Skin support with 19 pre-loaded skins to choose from
- New translations: Slovak, Polish and improved Arabic
- New video sources: izlesene.com, vidivodo.com, mynet.com and videobb.com

Please Note: We do NOT recommend upgrading a production installation of PHP Melody directly.
Please backup all your files and database before upgrading. If you’re using a premium PHP Melody template you need to download and install the latest version of your template from the Customer Area.
I have just updated to PHP Melody 1.6.7 version and I have to admit that I’m very disappointed.
The flv upload has not been fixed, users are still unable to upload flash videos.
I’m unable to set max. upload size for users greater then 1000MB (I have updated php.ini to 2000MB), and no matter what I do, when I set a greater value then 1000MB it automaticly goes to 1MB.
Not to mention, that there is no upgrade manual, so it is very easy to lose all the data from database if you don’t back it up before upgrade and even though when you upload the backap database you get errors, so you have to manualy update all the tables.
JW Players skins don’t work and the watermark doesn’t show on JW Player.
There is a lot of other little things that I’m not going to mention now, because I would have to spend hours on listing all of them.

The issues listed have nothing to do with this update. Let me explain:
1) The video file size limit is set by your host. You have to ask them to increase this limit as instructed in the error message.
2) There is a MANUAL upgrade. It’s the “manual” folder, in the php melody update package.
3) JW Player watermark is only available to JW Player commercial license holders. You need to buy a license from them to display watermarks.
As you see, these issues have nothing to do with the update. Hope things are more clear now.

Is there a list of the files that have been added or changed and where exactly code has been added or edited?
This would be very helpful in order to edit an already customised version of phpmelody.
Yes, this list is in the update package. You’ll see which files you have to edit and where.
The updated files and instructions are in the /manual folder from the php melody update package.
Just started using the “UPLOAD” option on my website and no problem uploading FLV Format. Thank God cuz the other formats won’t work but I’ll contact the Support at a later date as Flash is what works to most of my Members.
Just wanted to say that whoever made this script – YOU ARE GENIUS!!!

Is it a possible to update straight from v1.6.5 to v1.6.7, or do I have to start with v1.6.6 and then do the v1.6.7 update ?
Best to do the 1.6.6 update then 1.6.7. That’s the norm.

I got a commercial license of JW player but the watermark still does not show..
You know how to fix this?
There should be some topics on this in our forums. I don’t remember the solution at the moment but it should be an easy fix. Search the forums for “commercial license”, “jw player” or “watermark”.
