Adobe Flash Officially Dead. Use PHP Melody v2.7

Written by Andrew on August 11th, 2016

As far as we’re concerned, Flash is dead. Firefox is the latest browser to drop support for Adobe Flash starting this month (August). They have very good reasons to bail on Flash but the writing has been on the wall for a long time for Flash.

Major browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Edge have already ‘voted’ against the use of Flash on the web in favor of the much safer HTML5 rendering option.

Most major video platforms are scrambling to switch form Flash to HTML5.

But why should you care about all this?

As our close followers already know, our video CMS was well guarded against this reliance on Flash video. Unfortunately, we still had to rely on Flash for the back-end uploaders; until recently.

Starting with PHP Melody 2.7, our reliance on Adobe Flash is zero, null, nada. If you’re using an older PHP Melody version (e.g. 2.5 or 2.6) we advice you to update your PHP Melody installation ASAP.

In addition to the new features  newer PHP Melody releases bring, you’ll be prepared for the coming browser changes.

Even more important, visitors to your PHP Melody powered video sites will have nothing to complain about (i.e. broken video uploaders and forms). They’ll be happy, you’ll be happy. Everyone wins if you keep your PHP Melody site(s) up to date 🙂
