Please give an opinion for 1.7 version

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday I bought new domain for video site. Now I am starting to make a new theme and develop some modifications fully different from default theme. After that I will code to phpmelody. But before that I need to know, is there any approximately date for 1.7 version? It will almost take 2-3 months for me. If PM 1.7 are going to release before christmas, I wand to wait before coding.

I see that you are a old cutomer and I salute you.

There is no public aproximate date for 1.7 release.
I was expecting 1.7 release but instead has been released 1.6.7 version even if we knew that the last in 1.6. series will be 1.6.6.

Therefore, as 1.6.7 wasnt a maintenance release (as it came with new features), in my oppinion I wouldnt expect 1.7 this year.
I learned from this that it is better to announce a new major release only when it is 85% finished

Trust me, as manager of a site which deals with phpmelody plugins it was a surprise also for me the new PHPMelody releases...and also a lack of a Road Map.
I totally understand your feeling as we have to check over 45 related products / or releated heavy and expensive custom work in hours.

Later edit: The new 167 has been with 24 hrs in advance.

Hope only Andrew will offer Ozenyx (http://www.phpmelodytemplates.com/), Trace, me and few others a beta testing before the release - in order to have our products ready for the new version and offer a free bugs product as much as possible.

In the same context: about the private release and public release.

Prestashop - the product has been avail for download one week before the official website + newsletter release.
This gave time to the French company to see if there are any bugs to be fixed.

Today the official update has been pushed to all users.

SPBAS.com - the latest version has been released also with one week difference. For the first time since 2009, the team provided a fix because the users reported some bugs which have been fixed in the official release.

We did the same for few products which could affect our own customers websites.

Therefore, I suggest also a progressive push of the final build to some customers (1/3) and after a while (one week or whatever) to be officially released.

I suggest this because any bug make unusable the phpmelody owners websites.

Thank for your detail answer. It help me for making decision. Anyway, at now I am starting new design. time will show.

I am Prestashop developer for almost from the beginning. Their theme skeleton is very simple and table-less but pmelody default theme is very messy and need to edit ALL files. But If you are coding theme for prestashop is very simple and I am spending only 56working hours for one theme.

Oh yes.
I will move my shop to prestashop soon.
It is really powerful and it is easy to make templates for it.

Regarding 1.7
That was my opinion.
Probably Andrew will answer to your question with a precise timeframe.

We're not claiming to be all knowing and all informed about the best practices of running a software biz. Truth be told, we're quite stupid when it comes to certain things.

Recently we celebrated 6 years being behind PHPSUGAR, but we're still learning and mostly from your feedback. Personally, I've never been more hungry for knowledge than I am now.

Ok, it's settled, minor (X.x.x) releases will be announced at least a week in advance with emails (pre-release builds) going to our most active and fanatical customers.

Version 1.7 will not make it this year unless by some miracle, time stands still.

We will be releasing another update (in November) because there are many solid features that people need RIGHT NOW. I understand you don't have the time or desire to wait after our team to produce the new framework so we'll be adding improvements along the way.

I cannot stress enough how important criticism (the constructive kind) towards our team and work is.

Please state your sincere opinions anytime you get the chance. We are listening.

The problem with the "daily grinder", support, maintenance and such creativity-killer tasks, is that I mostly see what needs to be fixed, what's NOT pleasing customers, what's bad, how we could improve this and that..all the responsibility that falls on your shoulders, the anxiety of decision making, etc.

This daily routine makes me forget about all the success stories and what I'm really sacrificing my time and doing this for.

It's a peculiar phenomenon, a struggle if you want, but I'm doing my best to keep on track.

P.S: Meanwhile, 1.6.7 version almost cover my need. If I need more, I use Beyond Compare soft for updating/upgrading theme and I am also recommend this soft for developers.

Yes. hope that more and more will use it and will actively try to change/modfy/update their websites.
