Okay guys, give me your opinion/advice/tip on this...

I have never installed, administered, or moderated a Forum before, so I have no idea on how to maintain one and am asking anyone that is/has administered a Forum before to tell me how they cope or deal with spammers or any other Forum related problems?

Also, do you do all the Forum work on your own or you hire people to work with you? With a Forum added to my site which is currently pulling in over 20k unique visitors monthly, it will feel more like a community which is what I want. I answer many questions on my site's Facebook page and engage thousands of members in discussions, but would rather have those discussions on my site instead of Facebook.

Finally, I just thought of having something like Questions & Answers on my site; what are the possibilities of implementing this to PHP Melody?

Appreciate your feedback.

I have added a forum on my site but the most free forums scripts you have on the net are big shit
I installed a script whitout database and i d'ont recommend you to do the same
If you can code yourself you must make a bridge to melody, and i think ask Trace or go to a my big friend muzikia
http://www.ModMyScript.com
there are a plugin like melody to inject in your code

Thank you morane57.

@234Ent.
you need also some to help you as moderators in your new forum. As you have a lot of visitors, I assume you will have many posts. With no moderators to guard the forum, very soon it will become bloated.

Thanks guys. @morane57, yes I intend to use the Phbb3 bridge plugin from ModMyScript, was just wondering about the maintenance aspect of it and dealing with spam. I agree with what muzikia stated, with no moderators it will become bloated...which I need to avoid at all cost.

Have to start looking for moderators with knowledge about my niche. Thanks, any more inputs are appreciated :-)

As for me I like more mybb.
Easier to install plugins and very easy to manage

I kinda like Mybb too Muzikia, and I just checked out some of their free templates. This will help finalize my decision....between phpbb and mybb which one is more prone to security vulnerabilities?

Phpbb would be my favourite target.

Ok so I'll rather go with phpbb then. Security is very important to me.

Yeah I kinda figured the term "target" meant a negative influence, but then again the use of the word "favourite" made it all sound neutral. Thanks for clearing that up.

I had tried phpBB and enjoyed it, but it began to get littered with spammers. I had 17 people signup in just a month.. awesome, right? Not when every single one of them were posting about Russian Women Vodka and Viagra. (Though it does sound like something I need ;)).

I had just implemented it into a Page.

I think you can see the results:

The forum was locked down, but i think it still shows up in Google searches, as I can see its getting visited - thought it is listed as private.

No comment! :P

I suppose when you disable registrations and make them only able to register via phpMelody it would be a little bit more secure, but you never know ofc.
Spambots tend to find their way around such things.

Well, just the russian women and vodka anyway :P

I had trouble with the bridge plugin, else I would have left it. But I decided to do away with the forum for now and experiment with other areas.
