Upcoming PHP Melody 1.8 Preview

Hey guys,

As you already know the next PHP Melody update is scheduled for December 20th. That's less than 30 days away from our previous milestone, version 1.7.

We plowed trough a very long weekend and we're even closer to the finished product. However, because of the tight deadline we cannot host a public beta this time (and only this time).

Version 1.8 will include numerous bug fixes, a couple of new features and a social module.

Personally I'm very excited about the build-in (yet optional) social module and we hope you'll be too. Attached below are a couple of screenshots I managed to take from the coming update.

In tune with our commitment to PHP Melody, the social module will be a free module.

Great but any news about premium templates (in my case B52) ver 1.7?

Still on 1.6.7 and waiting for template 1.7 ...then 1.8 comes around.

Nice update but we are going to need extra tools to make the social aspect of this new module even viable. Otherwise it's just more maintenance for spam. Look forward to it.

Would be nice if upcoming PM versions come with a new HTML 5 player like "DarkOnyx" and a powerfull in-built advertising solution that let us create our own ads from available units including: pre-roll, post-roll, text-overlay, banners and pop-up overlays and also help us with managing our campaigns with complete control over things like: number of views, clicks, or even frequency of appearance separately for each ad or video-ad. No need for Flowplayer, JW player or OpenX anymore....

This is great. I know that company since they have the Anatomy player, few years ago.
I posted on this forum about this player and how easier would be to implement the ads and so on.

nobody answered and nobody sustained me.

I understand that maybe PM developers have no interest in change to that player because of licensing issues etc... but I think that they could at least give some tips to verified customers like us to how to install and configure that player and we can take care of buy the licenses for ourselves...

Webbie, just wanted to point out that this social module is actually anti-spam based on my testing today. Did you notice links are disabled in the news feed? Even if anchored. The module is spam-proof, similar to the comment module on video/article pages. So no linking for spammers (if any)

Such extensive features (if needed) should come as a plugin, not part of the core. You also have to consider this is a video CMS with a price tag less than $40!
