An angel got his wings today and we launched PHP Melody 1.7

Excited, yes we are. Tired, you bet. One thing is for sure.

Our work for the past 7 weeks is now available for download. PHP Melody 1.7 has finally arrived and we've created a new home for it in the forums. Champagne!

The Beta program was a success and we will certainly keep this habit. I wish to thank all the Beta participants. You're pretty awesome and we're hoping to return the favor by implementing your suggestions...one day at a time.

Before anything else, let me answer some common questions we received about this update:

Can I update my 1.6.x installation straight to 1.7 without losing any data?
Yes, you can. If you currently run our previous release, 1.6.7 (as you should be), you can download the PHP Melody 1.7 update package from your Customer Account.

The Update Manual included with the package goes into more detail about the procedure which, btw is surprisingly simple.

By upgrading you will not lose any data. You'll basically pick right where you left.

I know the "Artist" field has been removed; will this impact my indexed links?
The link structure had to change because the artist field has been removed. However, we created a solution for this and it complies with Google's (and other search engines) rules. The "old links" will be nicely redirected to the new location. According to Google, there's nothing to fear and this is a common procedure when changing URLs.

How about the existing templates? Will they work in PM 1.7?
We've improved many aspects and the templates had to be rewritten from scratch. That is why our 1.6.x templates do not currently work in version 1.7. We'll put in some elbow grease to convert the templates in the coming weeks. The good news is that the converted templates will be even prettier.

How about Mobile Melody?
Mobile Melody has been upgraded to work with PHP Melody 1.7. Download the copy from your Customer Account and overwrite the existing Mobile Melody installation (/mobile).

Good start, but any other plans for the near future?
Yes, we plan to roll out the templates as mentioned earlier, and our first 1.7 update is scheduled for December 20th. We really do have great plans for PHP Melody and work has never scared us before.

1. Language changing bug still exists. I tried it on http://demo.phpmelody.com > Changed the language to Arabic and now can't change the language to anything.
2. While the Arabic bug is active - Random Page is blank.

Two things..major issues with Mobile Melody..unless the words mobile get added to yoursite.com/ mobile doesn't load..even then they re-route to the desktop site from the mobile one. This is a problem for me..my app users aren't very happy..got 9 negatives today alone because of it lol..people sure have no patience.

Second: Can we get a list of any additional sources that we have that are now included in mobile melody (5min,etc)

Thats why you should always be careful and not just throw an update like this on your live site without extensive testing

I thought extensive testing is what beta is for..my apologies but since we all tested regular melody I figured someone would've tested this before going live. Since I know you were involved in this any idea if andrew added any new sources for mobile melody? Tired of offering nothing but youtube and self made mp4's..hoping for some new options.
