Today marks an important milestone in PHP Melody\u2019s development. PHP Melody is growing faster than ever, even 5 and a half years since its first version.<\/p>\n

Usually, each new update focuses on a fixed set of features or product area. We\u2019ve taken the time to make sure that v2.0 is a general improvement and not just the customary collection of new features. That\u2019s why you may notice improvements from the small things to the large ones.<\/p>\n

A lot of customers have requested that we bring back the artists field which was dropped in v1.7. We\u2019re happy to reveal that we went a step further and introduced \u2018custom fields\u2019 in v2.0. This feature alone extends PHP Melody\u2019s abilities to an entire new level. Fields such as the ‘artist’ field, ‘seasons’ or ‘episodes’ can all be defined and used quite easily.<\/p>\n

The ‘custom fields<\/strong>‘ is just one of the new features that comes with v2.0.
\nHere is the complete list of new features, improvements and bug fixes:<\/p>\n

New Features<\/h2>\n

*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New video uploading procedure with an upload progress bar.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Built-in floating sharing widget (Facebook, Twitter & Google) for videos, articles and pages (optional).
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 RSS links for listing pages in the footer.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New visualization plugin for mp3 files.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Video resizing button, which expands the video player to the entire width of the page.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ‘Delete’ button on each video page, next to the existing ‘Edit’ button.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Included more details about video and article author with an additional option to follow the author.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Edit the ‘404 Error’ and ‘Terms of Agreement’ pages right from the built-in ‘Page Manager’.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Option to choose which of the pages should appear in the header menu, or not.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Built-in JW Player 6 license code field on the ‘Settings’ page.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Optional keyboard shortcuts.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Updated listing pages for videos, articles, pages, etc.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Easily create new categories, without leaving the editing\/submission pages (videos and articles).
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Easy to re-upload and\/or download locally hosted videos without leaving the video editing page.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Easily replace\/upload video thumbnails without leaving the editing pages.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New option to manually approve new user registrations. Allows you to create a closed community.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New option to disable comments on any videos or articles.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New option to auto-approve any uploaded\/suggested video, without any moderation (use with caution).
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ‘Custom Fields’ which allow you to define meta data for each video or article.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 JW Player 6 was taken out of the ‘experimental’ stage and it has been fully integrated into PHP Melody v2.0.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Totally revamped video embed codes, which now include the option to show pre-roll ads.<\/p>\n

Enhancements<\/h2>\n

*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Video listings can now be sorted alphabetically in addition to date, views and rating.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Video uploads will auto-complete the ‘title’ with the uploaded file name.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Updated JW Player 6, as well as some 3rd party scripts.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Revamped listing pages for videos, articles, pages, etc. (Admin Area).
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The default theme was improved in more ways than one. Better styling and fewer HTTP requests.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Admin area improvements in loading speed and across multiple screen resolution.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All premium themes have also been improved with certain browser-specific issues fixed.<\/p>\n

Bugs Fixed<\/h2>\n

*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mac OS color fix: The gray color way too light and unreadable.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Header drop-down was showing sub-sub-sub categories without mouse over.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Video listing issues on certain pages; especially when used with non-English languages.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ‘My favorites’ listings alignment issue (in Chrome).
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thumbnail flickering issue on mouse over (in Chrome).
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Long video descriptions were cut off.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sharing of videos on Facebook prompted an empty player with the wrong thumbnail.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Registration form validation issues.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Registration did not accept non-Latin usernames.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Generated embed codes contained the wrong width and height.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MP3 player font color.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fixed cases where the meta_description was empty.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Top videos appear empty for a long time after the installation because the default sorting is by ‘rating’.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Avatar upload page shows the old avatar after update.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Admin status was updated each time a pending comment was approved.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Activity stream fix for grouping similar activities.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Blip.tv video source.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Double login into the admin area (on certain browsers).
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Issues with Admin Area login (the login form would not appear in IE8).
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 YouTube user import from usernames containing Cyrillic characters.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 URLs containing IP addresses (not hostnames) are recognized as local URLs.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The ‘HTML counter’ text area saved unwanted characters.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Editing a video stream ‘breaks’ the listing.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Category editing changes the category position and messes other categories.
\n*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Database export\/backup saves *.sql files compatible with MySQL 5.<\/p>\n

As you see, this is the biggest improvement of the year (so far).
