Reputation Points

Hey guys!

Today we're adding a "reputation" system to our forums.

Basically, this means that you can now rate a fellow member either positively or negatively based on his performance. Forum performance and not the other kind

How to use them?

Use the "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" icons to add or subtract reputation points:

As a rule of thumb you can add positive points to:
1) MOD creators
2) People who provide solutions
3) Like minded suggestions

Negative points should be added to:
1) Repeat offenders to the forum rules
2) Deliberate and repeated incomplete requests
- Always try to include a note when adding negative points

Examples of miss-using the RP:
1) "I (don't) like him/her" - i.e. personal vendetta
2) "He didn't reply to my question"

Some basic rules:
1) A user must have at least 10 posts before receiving any reputation points
2) Users will gain extra reputation points based on overall posts and overall time spent in our forums
3) There is a time and a spread (how many consecutive RP you can give to the same user) limit to avoid abuse
4) Unfortunately, I noticed this system doesn't add bonus reputation points retroactively for existing top users but I'm sure "karma" will run its course

I see the icons with Opera 11.

Your profile shouldn't have these icons because you cannot vote yourself.

My bad. Trace was right. This was a permission issue (did not expect that).

Andrew..can we get a separate section to rate modders, those selling plugins, templates and services for php sugar? I think we have tons of folks running around making promises as to what they can deliver and no actual customer ratings system..I know this is all third party php sugar but I think it's needed since we already have the marketplace. We need to help the user base know who to use and who to avoid in all this "marketplace business".

I think he means an addon to the new 1.7. As in adding a message forum section under it. Or the easy ability to add one of the many that are out there like BB and SWF.

thats why i told him that the reputation points here, in the sub-forum, means something else.
